Diploma in Agriculture (Plant Science) [Intermediate of Science in Agriculture-Major in Plant Science].
Program Objectives
The curriculum has the following objectives:
- Provide agronomy, horticulture and plant protection services to local farmers and different scales of farming;
- Deliver extension and community development services as a front-line extension worker;
- Conduct farmers training as a local-level resource person for increasing productivity of land, plant protection, land management, soil management, fertilizer application and new technology adaptation.
- Carryout agribusiness management and cooperative services at rural and urban areas in public and private sectors;
- Promote various aspects of agriculture, such as plant breeding, commercial vegetable production, mushroom cultivation, fruit crops production, medicinal plant production, aquaculture and fisheries;
- Promote organic and off-season vegetables production technology, culture and farming systems;
- Communicate effectively and work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and multicultural work environments through recognizing and understanding global, environmental, social, and ethical contexts of their works; and
- Enable to prepare a business plan for establishing small scale production and service related agro-enterprise firms.
Program Description
This course is based on the job required to be performed by the Junior Technicians (JT) at different levels of the public and private sectors of agriculture and community development-related work in Nepal. Therefore, this curriculum is designed to provide knowledge and skills focusing on agriculture and plant science related to the occupation. There are six semesters in total within the period of three years. The first-year courses are offered focusing on foundational and core academic subjects of agriculture science; the second-year courses are focused on basic disciplinary subjects of agriculture plant science. Similarly, the third-year whole courses comprise the disciplinary subjects related to agriculture extension, crop production, seed technology, and so on. Moreover, the third year insists on the application of learned skills and knowledge through project work and the internship program. The curriculum structure and the subject-wise content reflect the details of this curriculum. In brief, this curriculum will guide its implementers to produce competent and highly employable middle-level technical workforces in the field of agriculture.
The contents of each subject prescribed in the curriculum are founded on the “must know and must do” principle. The contents of the curriculum are comprehensively described at the microlevel.
Program Duration
The total duration of this curricular program is three academic years [six semesters]. The program is based on a semester system. Moreover, one semester consists of 19.5 academic weeks, including an evaluation period. Actual teaching and learning hours . will be no less than 15 weeks in each semester
Target location
The target location is all over Nepal.
Group size
The group size is a maximum of 40 in a batch.
Target Group
The target group for this program will be all the interested youth.
Entry Qualification
- SLC or SEE pass with a minimum C grade in any two subjects and a D+ in any one subject among mathematics, science, and English, or as per the provisions mentioned in the admission guidelines of the Office of the Controller of Examinations, CTEVT.
- Pre-diploma in Agriculture (Plant Science) or equivalent with a minimum of 67.00%.
- Pass the entrance examination administered by CTEVT.
